Heroic Imagination Project Collaborative Network

Welcome to the Heroic Imagination Project Collaborative Network, this network is for the core team of the the Heroic Imagination Project to showcase current work and for collaboration with key partners.

OUR GOAL: EXPLORE AND EXPAND THE NATURE OF OUR INNER HEROES

UNLEASH THE POWER AND GIVE VOICE TO OUR MANY SILENT HEROES
=========
THE “HEROIC IMAGINATION” IS THE ENGINE OF HEROISM,
THAT IS FUELED BY THE CIVIC VIRTUES OF COMPASSION, ALTRUISM, EMPATHY, SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY, AND INTEGRITY, AND IN TURN BECOMES THE COGNITIVE-MOTIVATIONAL FORCE FOR HEROIC ACTION--THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF CIVIC ACTION.

Dr. Phillip Zimbardo discusses the meaning of heroism in his recent undertaking, "The Hero Project". Dr. Zimbardo’s goal is to challenge every citizen to be willing to make sacrifices for others - to be a "hero" - when faced with dealing with a disaster, be it natural or man-made. I hope to change the world through spreading my Heroic Imagination Project virally as smart meme- creating new ordinary heroes in every country, of every age, gender and social class to oppose evil in all its forms, and promote the civic virtues of compassion and justice. We are doing so via creating new Heroic Imagination curricula in schools and camps, and will be using the web and mobile phones to spread the word (and make a public commitment) that we are "heroes- in-waiting"-- doing small social virtuous acts, and becoming " heroes-in-training" using our Hero Resource kit guidelines, so that when the time comes for a major heroic deed, they will be willing and able to act heroically.
Most heroes are ordinary people who act socio-centrically in aiding others in need or a moral cause, aware of the likely personal costs and without expectation of tangible reward.

Help us to create an international organization to promote heroism as an antidote to evil and as a celebration of what is best in human nature.

This organization will be dedicated to developing and spreading the conception of heroes as ordinary, everyday people who are motivated to act on behalf of others or for a moral cause with action that is extraordinary- without expecting material reward, and with an awareness of probable personal costs.

We will both demystify and democratize the elusive concept of heroism.
Our fundamental conception is to instill in young people the self-belief that “I am a hero-in-waiting.” We will then give them a hero resource kit to prepare them for action

Further, to internalize the perspective, that “When I become aware of the need to act on behalf of others needing help or being the victim of evil forces, I will be ready and able to take the necessary action.”
